About Assolux Photography: Headshots Photographer in Los Angeles
"Many people ask me why I am always carrying my cameras, or ask me why I am taking pictures. I often ask them, 'Why do you eat?' "
James Lalropui Keivom
Portfolio is the most powerful advertisement tool for actors and
models, I should know. I was on the other side of the camera many
years ago. Being young, aspiring actress and model I spent many
afternoons posing for my portfolio. "Make a happy face, a sad face,
just be yourself, tun left and right, back to the camera and snap your
face to me so your hair fly...." and on and on. Hundreds of pictures
were taken, developed and printed as proof sheets and only 1 would
make it in to portfolio. Next time we would start all over again.
A huge assembly line of point and shoot 25 years ago. I never became
famous, but I still look at the pictures I have left and think that how
different I would do it if I was my own photographer then. How i would
show off all the valuable assets I had, great skin, large blue eyes
and incredible hair. But head shot was a head shot and standard black
and white pictures were taken of everybody.
When I decided to start shooting headshots, I remembered all the struggle
I went through trying to make myself look good thinking of where to
turn and what is my best angle. On my second photo shoot I realized
that that was not me, is was not my job to make myself look better.
I, as a photographer, see in my viewfinder what is my models best
angle and best look, how her hair look better or what needs to be
changed in the makeup. Does she look best in hat or does he look best
in a bandana. As an artist, it's my job to make you look your best, to
relay to your agents and producers all your inner thoughts and
feelings. Each person is different and "one for all head shot"
approach does not work. Each person is an individual with it's own
real complex character of an actor.
I take my time to get to know you by spending time with you, not
rushing but allowing you to become the person you are trying to
portray with each change of clothes. One moment you might be a
ballerina and the next you are a sexy vixen. One minute you are a
cowboy and the next - a biker or a business men in suit and tie.
I don't take more then 2 photo sessions per day. This way I do not
allow my studio to become an automated assembly line of headshots.
I have a small cozy studio, where you can feel relaxed and at home. My
studio equipped with all the latest lighting and backdrop equipment
which allows me to take wonderful pictures against blue like a sky or
green as a grass backdrop with light shining to the back of your head
imitating the afternoon sun and giving you that wonderful sun halo.
What studio can no imitate is the real sunset or dark mood of the
stormy afternoon, or the sound of waves in the background. While
studio is a great tool that makes life of a portrait photographer really easy,
nothing can compare to fresh California air and sunshine. Of course I
do allot of headshots within the studio, I love working outside, at
the beach or at a park.
